prefix: inter

PREFIX inter-

meaning "in between,” “among,” “in the midst of,” “mutually,” “reciprocally,”“together,” “during”

If there were social movements before called the industrial revolution, the modernist movement, the feminist movement, I'll venture to posit the rise of another movement that is beginning to emerge as its own.

In contrast to former ideals of purity and categorical discreetness, space has been created to facilitate the formation of an in-between. In analogous terms, an integral versus algebraic math, thermodynamic versus mechanical physics, and fluid versus binary gender.

The prefix, trans- could also be considered, meaning "across," "beyond," "through," "changing thoroughly," "transverse," although it recognizes categories to move into and out of. Similarly, inter- conveys a notion that there are bookends, limits to the in-between space. Although there may be times where society can function, unreferenced to limits, I'll focus here on inter-.

International: entities moving between and interacting within multiple national governments
Interdisciplinary: entities moving between and interacting within multiple disciplines
Intersectionalentities moving between and interacting within multiple categories of identities

Interracialentities moving between and interacting within multiple race categories
Intergenerationalentities moving between and interacting within multiple age groups
Interstellarentities moving between and interacting within multiple astrological masses

Interactive: of multiple entities influencing or having an effect on each other
Intermediate: coming between points in time, place, order, character, etc.
Interdependent: of multiple entities dependent on each other

Interface: points where multiples entities meet and interact
Interreality: the merging of multiple (real and virtual) worlds
(The) Internet: "a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols"

Is there value in seeing inter- as an emerging movement? Less about any agenda to associate with the emergence of inter-, positing it could be a simple exercise of observation.
