Biofuels, a very contentious topic

CONFERENCE Berkeley Bioeconomy Conference

Thursday, June 24th - Friday, June 25th, 8am-5pm
Faculty Club, UC Berkeley

This two-day conference aims to shed light on the current state of biofuels from an economic and policy perspective, investigate some areas of debate, and establish the foundation for improved policies. It will include presentations that overview the reality of biofuels on the ground, analyze its economic and environmental impact, and assess its future.

By the way, it's FREE! Limited space, so register soon if you're into this stuff. I'll be there, too.

This very cute, and easy-to-read paperback illustrates the fundamental principles of Taoism through the characters of Pooh Bear and and his friends, using original excerpts from A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh.

Downsizing

Q&A Downsizing the Prison-Industrial Complex

In California we spend about $50,000 a year per adult; it costs about five times more to keep a youth in 24/7 residential care, and about $75,000 a year to put a youth in a group foster home. Public officials who are trying to reduce huge budget deficits are now asking "what could we buy for a family for $50,000 a year?" If we were to help pay for therapy, counseling, rent — what is called "wrap-around services" — could we get better results for less money?
